A US study has suggested that older people who drink moderate amounts of alcohol may have a lower risk of dementia.
The initial studies have shown that the people who consumed between eight and 14 alcoholic drinks a week had a 37% lower risk of developing dementia, however anyone drinking 14 drinks a week were twice as likely to develop the disease.
Although the findings of the study are positive, the reason for them are not clear, also consideration has to be made for the normal negative effects of drinking alcohol. The researchers also said that older adults who do not currently drink should not begin to based on the finding of this study.
