French researchers have reported that older people who have long
been physically active, and remain so, have better balance than
less vigorous seniors. Individuals who have excercised in the past
but stopped after retirement had balance control nearly as bad as
those who have never been active.
Excercise interventions improve balance and reduce fall risk, as
balance can be more effectively controlled due to stronger muscles.
