Scientists have developed a vaccine to help control high blood
pressure. The regimen requires a course of just 3 jabs with a booster
injection every 6 months.
The jab has been successfully tested on humans using a protein
from a limpet. The protein is used to a attack a hormone produced
by the liver called angiotensin. Angiotensin raises the blood pressure
by narrowing the arteries. The vaccine turns the bodys immune system
against the hormone. Testing will now take place on an improved
version of the jab which is ten times more effective than the original.
It is expected that the drug will be available within the next
five years, heart doctors welcomed the news of the drug.
