Doctors have discovered that giving the drug Reclast, an osteoporosis
drug from Novartis, to patients with hip fractures can prevent later
fractures.
Patients who break a hip once are 10 times more likely to suffer
a second break there. The study financed by Novartis found that
once a year injections can reduce the risk of subsequent fracture
by 35%.
The results were so pronunced the study was completed early.
Reclast is currently awaiting approval from the European Union
for Osteoporosis.
