An investigation of 47 stroke patients admitted to a rehabilitation
centre who were randomly assigned to an antidepressant called nortriptyline,
Prozac and a Placebo. The investigators found no differences at
periods during the investigation, however at the final assessment
those given the antidepressant showed marked improvement in executive
function regardless of whether they were depressed.
The findings from this investigation concluded that anti-depressant
medication may have a role after stroke, regardless of if the patient
shows signs of depression.
Further reseach would be required to show more conclusive research.
