A report from Reuters (USA) follows that people who suffer from
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) eg emphysema, may find
that high intensity training of the muscles used for breathing can
improve the muscle function and reduce the difficulty breathing.
It is said that the IMT (inspiratory muscle training) may be benefical
to patients who find breathing difficult in daily living and fatigue
due to other conditions which conditions such as arthritis which
restricts the ability to participate in whole body activity.
The research found that patients following IMT training for 8 weeks
showed significant improvements for COPD symptoms, however further
research would be required.
