US scientists have developed "super-oxidised" water
which they claim can help speed up healing.
The water has been developed by the Californian firm which developed
the water by filtering it through a salt membrane. The filtered
water is then said to kill viruses, bacteria and fungi. It is also
been seen as effective against MRSA and it is currently undergoing
UK trials on patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
The key active ingredient in the water is called Microcyn, oxychlorine
ions - electrically charged molecules which pierce the cell walls
of free-living microbes.
The molecules act by completely surrounding cells and killing them,
as human cells are tightly bound in a matrix they are safe from
the water molecules.
One study performed showed patients with foot ulcers treated with
antibiotics had an average healing time of 55 days this was against
an average healing time of 43 days for those treated with the "Super
Water".
Both spokesman from Diabetes UK and Help the Aged welcomed the
water and reconised that wound healing is a major area in the health
of old people, they were excitied about seeing the results of further
trials.
