Hopes of new drugs to combat strokes and heart attacks were given
a boost yesterday when scientists revealed they have discovered
a new way to regulate blood pressure.
It is estimated that 25% of adults suffer from high blood pressure
and although powerful drugs are available few actually manage to
achieve target blood pressure.
The new control called oxidation, uses oxidents to control Protein
kinase G (PKG) which plays a fundamental role in blood pressure
regulation.
Although much more research is needed it could open doors to a new
development of drugs which activate this new pathway to control high
blood pressure.
